Pz IV Ausf H with 8,8 Flak 37

Postby Dimitris_Pravinos » Fri Jul 02, 2010 5:48 pm

Hi guys
I have started a new model. That is a Pz IV wich carrys an 8.8 Flak 37. In the long line of the different version of Pz IV this might be the most inderesting.
Having some photos from the Pilsen airport of Czechoslovakia in the end of war that shows 2 tanks like that i decided to create one. Unfortunately i do not have a photo that shows the floor but only front, sides and behind. I ll put some photos to show you the real tank

So i satrted with Trumpeter's company kit-Ostwind that gives full interior. But its not Ausf Ha's ''skeleton''.So i took the ''skeleton'' from Dragon company -Ausf H late production (nr. Kit 6300)
For the 8.8 flak 37 after much studying of the photos i got this Dragon's Kit version

Image

because its supposrt base is not the classic

Image

This base was usually used for temporary positions

Image

Till now im on that phase of creation

I decided not to put the classic ammo case that Pz IV originally had, because 8.8's ammo was longer,

Image

with the thought that the fighting compartment was removed and replaced with a simple floor on flender's height.
Generally, studying these photos anyone can see some differences with the classic Pz IV.
Progressing with the creation with photos we will see my try to fix the tank that we see in the photo

Of course, Dragon Company have anounced a new Kit for this particulate tank but, i havent found any photo with this Dragon version. Who knows, there might be other tanks like that

A little progress.
I put heat bolt on the brake unit, and some little bases to the right side of upper hull for cables. Also I make a mechanism of axis for the brake unit, and added cables on the transmission. And also outsite of the box with the indications.

Thanks Geronimo

I created the barel's support base according with the photo that i have at the moment. Only one of the two tanks, had this particulate base according to the photo's. The unusual thing is that none of these two tanks have the cross in the back side that Pz IV had.

There was also placed the above part of the engine, but unfortunatelly, dragon's kit is not the same with Trumpeter's one. So, i made a little ''negotiation'' concerning about the size because the inside engine must be visual like the photo

Image

Another strange clue on this unusual tank

Summer time

The work with the tools is done. There was also made an interference on the back place.
Now it is ready for primer and then, floor plates.... it is the difficult part

One last photo from p.e .
According with this photo the tank didn't have the regular front fender and it appears that we are dealing with a field conversion fender's created that way so they don't look that they are from factory and rivers were placed uppon them.

Even though i said that i will make some consessions on TRUMPETER'S kit, i won't be able to. So, the fuel tank was taken out and shorted by 4.m.m cause its wrong. IF the plates placed on top, it wont appear, but... that the 88 cannot relly despit only way. The ''kick'' is way too strong 8O . That was the reason that Germans chose this contract the ammunition transportation. so the plates must be mobile, lke the RSO with PAK 40 occasion
Naturally,in fact, from benith, there where the fuel tanks, wich ever constructions- welding should have been made carefully
