Tiger I 1/72 Dragon Ukraine 1943

Postby Keyvan » Tue Jun 15, 2010 4:31 pm

Hey,

There is my second project.Im building this tiger with wintercamo below:

source:Michael Wittmann und die Tiger der Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler von Patrick Agte

The basic kit is the dragon initial production one, since this is a early model as you can see by watching the cuppola.
Im building a workable suspension right now to adjust it to the diorame later:

Sadly i just have this one picture of this tank, meaning i have to build the rest by trying to adjust the look to the one side i can see on this picture.
There are a lot of changes to do, i.e. i had to add a emergency hatch on the right side of the turret since dragon provides the usual hatch here.
The build is kinda fun, im doing a lot of research right now to make things fit perfect concerning historical correctness.the turret is almost done right now, rest is coming.

and heres my first try to create a wooden look:

this is my second model with pe parts, creating battle damage is kinda hard to me, im fine with the look right now, although theres still some work to do i.e. with the exhaust mufflers to fit in perfect.
I hope to give back some of the inspiration i received thought this board within the last weeks.Feel free to post your thoughts no matter if good or bad!

You mean to tell me that there is a 1/72nd PE turret stowage bin available? And you assembled it?
Wow!!!!

Hey,

the stowage bin was hardcore to assemble since im new to working with pe parts. Finally everythings ok now, the damage looks good for my first try and everythings clean.
The Pe are from voyager, its the mid/late tiger I set, im building an early one here, but some of the parts were needed i.e. for the fenders, the stowage bin, exhaust mufflers etc.
The only problem with voyager is that sometimes the way they planned how to bend the parts is kinda impossible (for me actually).
I had to cut of the back part of the box to bend it and then add it again.

Another good Pe manufacturer these days is PART, they have a lot of sets and the prices are a bit higher than voyager but still more than fine.
They lack some detail here and there, but in comparison to eduard its the far better choice in my eyes.

Hey guys,

I had to take the cam of my girlfriend this time with even worse quality..but i guess one can still see what happened.
I was working on a workable suspension using 0,8mm sheet sticks.I cut of the arms and glued them together with those sticks. They were glued to the hull at the end and fixed again with parts from PE-frames i *recycled*^^

i used tons of glue to make sure its fixed well.since you wont see it later it didnt really matter to me this time.main task was to get it working and it does indeed!I hope its still working with the wheels on.

The plate on the top is for weight, i need to put some on it to make the suspension work i guess.i will get some of those weights people use for fishing and glue them onto the plate.Better pictures asap.

Hey,
almost all pe are rdy to be brought onto the vehicle.the pics are a bit dark, white paper was not the best choice as it seems.i will try blue next time, i guess its still ok.i worked on the damage on the right side of the tower, corrected the escape hatch on the right side and a bit of small works.have fun!

Very nice build. With these PE parts You reach the point, when naked eye is not enough to catch the details...

This little Tiger looks like a real winner. I hope that everything goes good for him, especially painting and weathering process. Good luck, mate!

Hey guys,

thx for your kind comments.well my building abilities are far better than my painting ones.i just hope not to ruin this one.i finished it today, some of the pics( the ones without surfacer) show the wrong positions for the details on the side of the tiger.had to relocate them and add 3 more to make it accurate.they were scratched out of pe-frames.some of the pics seem to have less details like damage etc. than before the priming, its just the quality of the pics, dont be worried.ill get better pics this weekend i guess.
primer was surfacer 1200, well lets see what happens with painting right now.
