1. If you are loading an image from another website, or photo sharing site, copy ( ctrl+c) the url of the image on the specific site, then Click on the button labeled [img] at the top of the posting box....you will see two bracketed [img]'s with a flashing insertion point/bar between them appear in the post box......then simply paste (ctrl+v). The image url will be pasted in where the flashing point is. [You will not be able to see the image itself in the post box while in typing your post...all you will see is the url bracketed by the [img]'s the photo will not appear unti you hit "preview", or your post is "posted".
2. The other way to load an image.....one that is on your computer/hard-drive, is to, at the bottom click on the tab "Upload Attachment", then click on "Browse"...this will bring up a browser window that you will use to browse through your computer till you find the image...onece you have found the image on your computer, click on it.....then oat the bottom of that browser window, click on "open"...the window will close, and you will see the name/location of that image in the box to the left of the browse button.......then simply click the "Add The File" button. ....the screen will refresh, and if you want you will be able to add a comment to the image....if not, you can then either load another image into the post by repeating the "Browse/Open/Add -The-File" process...or you can hit "Submit"....to upload/post your post.
Here is a bit more of a clarification of option 2 above (loading from hard drive):
At the bottom click on the tab "Upload Attachment"; Then click on "Browse". This will bring up a "Choose File" window that you will use to browse through your computer till you find the image...
1.) As you can see I have selected and clicked on the the image "29b"
2.) You can see that after clicking on the image, its name appears in the "File Name" box.
3.) Click, on "Open"....the "Choose File" window will then automatically close.
Your screen view will then look like the one below:
4.) The "path" of the photo you just chose will now appear in this window (leave it...don't change it, or mess with it)
5.) Click the "Add The File" button.
After Hitting the "Add The File" button, your screen will look like the one below:
6.) Here you can see the name (in this case "29b") of the image you loaded.
7.) If you want, you can post a breif comment that will appear with/as part of the image when viewed. (this is not necessary to do/add)
8.) If you had only one image to load, and thus are finished with your post, click on "Submit".
.......OR........
8a.) If you are not finished, and wish to load additional images; click on the "Upload Attachment" tab, and repeat all of the above steps. (This process is needed foe each individual image you wish to include in the post)....then when you have added all your desired images click on "Submit".
Q: How big should my uploaded images be? My Image is too large and/or won't load?
I do not know what the max kb size is that the site permits, but you definitely should try to keep the images to a realistic KB size for faster loading and viewing (there is really no need/reason for images over 200KB). It is also really not necessary to use images with a largest dimension over 800 pix. In addition with resizing your images, a bigger culprit is often the resolution of the image....for posting online, your resolution should be 72dpi., as this is the standard format of a computer display...anything larger is useless and has no effect on how (the quality) your image appears on the screen (other than making it a large file and a larger image).
If you are uploading images from your computer you will have to deal with whatever KB restriction this forum has, however if you are linking from an offsite storage site, this limit should not affect you. (Though it is still adviseable to use some common sense in regards to size........not everyone has a high speed connection...and even those of us that do, don't always care to wait till the forum page loads a bunch of giant files.)
Q: How do I resize my images?
You can use a program like Microsoft Office Picture Manager (which comes free with the Microsoft Office suite), Photoshop or any number of other editing programs. Your Digital camera probably came with a disc containing a basic photo editing program (if not, or you have lost your disk, check the mfrs. website, and you may be able to download a version for free.) When opening photos with these programs you can easily (with a few clicks) resize your photos.
Q: I don't have a website, so how do I store my images online?
You can use photo storage site such as Fotki, Flickr, PhotoBucket, etc.(some cameras such as Nikon, even come with access to their own photo hosting site).
A note on photo hosting sites. If you use/choose one, PLEASE use one that does not have all sorts of pop-ups and crap that comes up when you click on the image for a larger view.....it is merely annoying, and will make people less likely to look at your images.
Q: How do I Upload my own Avatar?
First you will need to have your intended photo or graphic hosted/stored somewhere on-line....such as on a website, or on a photo hosting service/site. It is best if your intended image is no larger than 100 pixels tall by say 60-80 pixels wide. (The forum program may have actual size restrictions, but I am not sure off-hand what they are. If it does, it will let you know when you try loading the image and it is too large.)
So....to load the image.... Go to the site where the image is stored/hosted and copy (crtl+c) the URL for that image; then while logged in to the forum, click on "User Control Panel" in the upper left of the page....once the User Page is open...click on the second tab at the top labeled "Profile"........Then click on the tab labled "Edit Avatar".....there you will see a box next to the title "Link Off-Site".......paste (ctrl+v) your previously copied URL into that box, and click "Submit". .....you have now loaded your Avatar.
NOTE: you may be asked to approve/accept the changes you made to your profile after submitting the Avatar...if so, just click OK. If your Avatar exceeds the size allowed by the forum code/program, it will/may not upload your image, and will let you know. In that event, you will need to resize your original off-site image to fall within the required parameters, and go through the above uploading steps again. It is also possible that your image may fall within some of the forum code parameters, and close to, but not within some others...and the program may automatically resize/compress the image to work......you will just have to try and see what occurs during the process.
